Why Adapt IT? Why the Telecommunication sector? What is your role at Adapt IT Telecoms Kenya?

I strongly believe that Adapt IT Group has a very solid track record, especially in the Telecommunications sector. We have a great understanding of the issues this industry encounters and have proven to be a reliable partner. Here in Kenya, we mostly work with the best Telecoms operators you can think of, and we are aiming to increase our expertise in the region. In fact, the Telecommunications sector is one of the finest to work in because, it is continually evolving. New challenges and opportunities emerge every time, and there is no time for boredom. Being in this industry and working for Adapt IT as a company, is quite a synergy for me, because we are delivering cutting-edge solutions that enable this digital age.

I work particularly in the Telecoms Division of Adapt IT, as an Executive Sales and Account Manager, and what I really enjoy about sales, in general, is my ability to assist businesses in solving their problems. I can go into a customer’s environment, identify their problem, and then work concurrently with them to fix it. I love it. That’s one of the aspects of my profession that I enjoy.

How is Adapt IT Telecoms empowering the East Africa region with its advanced solutions?

Our solutions are empowering the East African region by assisting Telcos deal with several matters. We help improve customer experiences, increase business revenue, and reduce customer churn; we give our partners adequate solutions to help them handle data management struggles and much more. In the same way, we deliver growth to the biggest MNOs in East Africa by providing unique and differentiating offers in the sector. They are always ahead of the curve when using our solutions because of our high-level expertise.

As part of Adapt IT Telecoms, you recently attended the AI for Leaders’ Summit in Kenya; what is your view on the adoption of AI Technologies in Africa?

In my opinion, AI has the potential to help Africa in a variety of ways, especially in essential sectors such as Health, Agriculture or Education. It all depends on how it is used. In the Health sector, AI can diagnose diseases, develop new treatments, and deliver healthcare services to remote areas. AI-powered chatbots, for example, can provide basic medical advice to patients, and AI-powered image recognition tools can help doctors diagnose diseases more accurately.

AI in Agriculture can help boost productivity when used to improve crop yields, manage pests and diseases, and optimise water usage. In that sense, AI-powered drones can be used to survey crops and identify problems, and AI-powered algorithms can be used to predict crop yields.

Concerning the topic of Education and skill development, AI can be a real help in the process. It may help personalise learning, provide feedback to students, and create interactive learning experiences with the help of AI-powered tutors. Those tutors can provide one-on-one support to students, and AI-powered games can help students learn new concepts in a fun and engaging way.

Can Technology exist without PEOPLE? Why?

Technology cannot exist without People because who will support the Technology you provide? Who will provide feedback on areas for improvement? If no human relationship has been established initially, how would you even sell and to whom would you sell it to? The people who provide the motivation for technological innovation are also the ones who provide feedback on whether a solution is working. They are the foundation of society, and they’re essential in the expansion of Technology.

What advice would you provide to young people studying in your field yet wanting to work in the Technology sector?

This is actually a very close question to my heart because I have a nephew who has recently joined university and is pursuing a Degree in the Technology sector. I will convey the same message to the younger generation as I do to him.

Technology is the future; it is a sector that strongly impacts and fuses with other industries. Therefore, it is crucial to start learning about and engaging with it today. Even if it is not something you like, Technology is a broad field with numerous specialisations. Take the time to explore different areas to find the one that aligns best with your interests and strengths. Start building your skills, and gain practical experience by participating in internships, research projects, or open-source contributions. Practical experience will not only reinforce your theoretical knowledge but also make you more attractive to potential employers.

If you can, network with people in the Tech industry and attend Tech events. Showcase your technical abilities by creating a portfolio that highlights your projects, achievements, and any unique contributions you’ve made. This can be in the form of a personal website, or any other platform that allows you to demonstrate your work.
Finally, Be persistent. The tech industry can be competitive, so it’s important to be persistent and not give up. Keep learning, networking, and applying for jobs, and eventually, you will find the right opportunity.
