Over and above this, Telcos might also have to enhance their security systems to prevent violations, which adds to the overall financial strain.

To ensure the data is secure, Telcos must regularly update and securely manage encryption keys to prevent access.
  • Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) – MFA heightens security by mandating different verification steps before granting access to information. Telcos can integrate MFA across all platforms and applications handling data. This may involve a mix of something known by the user (password), something possessed by the user (security token), and something inherent to the user (identification).
  • Reducing Data Collection – This refers to gathering only the information needed for its intended purpose. It includes regularly reviewing data collection procedures to ensure they align with the principle of data collection and establishing guidelines that limit the gathering of excessive data.
  • Anonymisation – is the process of modifying data to prevent individuals from being identified by the information. This strategy utilises methods like pseudonymisation, where identifiable details in a data entry are substituted with identifiers. Additionally, techniques like data masking and aggregation are applied to protect identities.

By prioritising these approaches, Telcos can effectively safeguard information, foster customer confidence, and reduce the likelihood of data breaches or privacy infringements.
