Over the years, demand for voice-based services has declined substantially. VAS (value added services) was developed as a way to increase consumer time spent on a device.
The importance of VAS is largely driven by fierce competition in the telecoms industry, and the need for differentiation in order to attract more customers.
Adapt IT | Telecoms VAS are add-on services to core products to provide additional functionality and value for long-term revenue opportunities.
Our arsenal of VAS means that you can offer more value to your customers, and this results in enhanced marketing initiatives and most importantly, increased ARPU and higher profitability.
The goal for communications service providers that provide VAS, is to increase customer loyalty in the long run by providing new services that are meaningful in their daily lives.
Adapt IT | Telecoms VAS offers two types of value added services:
- Stand-alone services and;
- Services that supplements and adds value to core services and do not operate on their own.

Devices Look Up (IMEI)
The Devices Lookup (IMEI) offering is part of the VAS solution. All mobile devices have a unique 15-digit number, called the device’s IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity). This number provides additional data on every mobile device used in the organization. Based on this number, you can check some information about the device, e.g., brand or model.

Service / Store Locator
The Service/Store Locator is part of the VAS solution. It allows organizations and users to locate services or stores closest to them. It does this using GPS navigation technology.

Adapt IT | Telecom’s “APN-as-a-Service” platform enables MVNO’s to offer and monetize a data management service to their end-user customers without having to manage any complex setups, configuration or integration into the primary network.
The Role and Importance Of VAS in Telecoms
Due to saturation, telecoms have to broaden their service offerings to increase their ARPU.
As such, they need to readjust the business model around value-added services, instead of just the network infrastructure.
VAS usually operates within a certain time frame, and once it is offered on a widespread scale, can then become a standard service.
All VAS share at least one or more of these characteristics:
- It is not a core or basic service, but instead adds value to a core service.
- Either stands alone, or creates a demand for a basic service.
- Does not detract from the basic service unless that would prove favourable.
- May be sold at a premium price.
- Can provide synergy between other services.
Mobile VAS services are categorized as:
- Consumer behavior VAS
- Network VAS
- Enterprise VAS
Examples of popular VAS are:
- Cloud storage
- Online gaming
- Location based services
As the market becomes more saturated, VAS as well as partnering with other industries for additional revenue streams, is essential.
